TO STUDY ALONE OR TO STUDY IN GROUPS?
Just night before the exams it has become a ritual for all the members of our wolf pack to come together and study together. It is customary for everyone to bring a nicotine intense drink and to swear ones allegiance to the gang and vow to remain awake throughout the night whatsoever be the consequences. I would prepare the room for the studies and even light an incense stick and offer prayers to all the gods I know and apologizing to others because I don’t know about them. By the time all the rituals are over its late enough that one of the weaker members of the pack would start yawning and it is a known fact that yawning is contagious. Before even the first concept of the first chapter is cleared everyone is tired and the exhaustion is evident as if the wolves have been hunting without food for more than a week. This is the time when innovation conquers over the logic and the suggestion of mixing beer with redbull and a table spoon of coffee seems to be most logical thing to do. Drinking that horrendous liquid is not enough because that has to be followed by deep fried dumplings and deep fried chicken, basically something has to be deep fried. An hour later, at least one of the team members is down and other two are drooling and dripping saliva over the book. The situation worsens when other hostel buddies comes banging on the door and waking us up saying that the exam is about to start in ten minutes. Even though this has become ritualistic every time we appear for any exam, it makes me wonder whether studying alone would be any different or not.
So this time I decided to betray my friends and took that bold step of studying alone. The ritual was the same, lighting incense stick, praying to all the gods that I know and apologizing to others because I don’t know about them. I was missing the deep fired goodies and the horrendous liquid all the time but this time around i did manage to read few topics more than when I was with my friends. But something was missing, I did realize much later in the night that when I used to study with my wolf pack we had one advantage over studying alone, we would solve each other’s doubts and help each other in their weaknesses and thus by clearing each other’s doubts we would cover many topics which we might miss while studying alone!
Now that put me into a dilemma what to do? One day I realized while facebooking that why not combine both the experience into one. Why not study alone and be together at the same time? Why not be tied in a social networking media where we share each other’s doubts and solve each other’s queries and be away from temptations like mixing coffee power with redbull and then boiling it. This is when I started creating a platform for education that is social and private both at the same time and after a researching and trying and re- trying for more than one year I came up with the idea of www.mytestbuddy.com and thus it came into existence. I hope the students would appreciate my efforts and would like the interface that I have created.

SAYING BYE BYE TO THE PAPER AND THE PEN…
SAYING BYE BYE TO THE PAPER AND THE PEN…
CAT was the first major Indian examination that announced its transition to the digital media in 2009 and since then there has been an aura around the CAT examination and students have found the transition from pen pencil and adapting to the computer based examinations little difficult.
Before analysing the Computer based approach to the CAT; let us first understand what is CAT why is it is one of the most quintessential examination among the Indian B School aspirants. The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as a pre-requisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs, IITs, FMS and IISc. There are non-IIM institutions that have registered to avail the CAT scores to be used in their admission process, thus making CAT the most important of all mba entrance examinations in India.
CAT is normally conducted every year during a 20 day testing window in the months of October and November. The test score is valid for admission to the forthcoming academic year only. Every year close to two lakh students takes this examination for not more than a couple of thousand coveted IIM MBA seats and thus making CAT one of the toughest examinations in the world for MBA admissions. Every year hundreds of thousand students attend coaching classes for a period of greater than ten months for preparation of the CAT examination and thus naturally there is an aura and fear around the CAT enthusiasts and the sense of competition is severe.
This year the examination pattern for CAT has changed and instead of three sections. The CAT 2011 will have only two sections instead of three. The first section will focus on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. These two sections will be conducted one after another with separate time limits. The total time of the examination will be 140 minutes. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section. For their assistance they will have a timer which will show how many minutes are remaining. Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second and they will no longer be able to go back into the previous section.
A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the test actually starts, and it is advised that candidates should go through the tutorial very carefully before starting the actual main examination. The tutorial will help student grasp the basic software used for the examination and this will also help student to decrease anxiety about the online examination. The total duration will be two hours and 35 minutes including the tutorial.
A computer based CAT practice test will provide candidates with a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation (the whereabouts) and functionality of the actual test will be made available in the coming weeks. Once again candidates are advised to go through them carefully to familiarise themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation. It is advised to every student to take the practice test.
For decreasing the anxiety about the computer based test students should prepare online for CAT and should familiarize themselves with the computer based pattern beforehand. There are handfuls of sites that are providing online/ net based preparation and software for CAT preparation, however there are very few online interactive platforms that provide ideal environment for communication and preparation for the test online. www.mytestbuddy.com is a pioneer in the education social networking in India and is an fantastic application that has answers to all your troubles for online tests.

Education Simplified motivates students to think, to have opinions and to raise their concerns. It gives students a platform to show off their talent and it gives them a platform to publish their work. Students with aim and dedication to work will benefit most from this programme. Education Simplified is a motivational programme and does not force students with time limits and assignments. However students will be encouraged to write on topics they find interesting at their leisure. Upon submitting the articles/ artwork it will be available online on the student’s section of Education simplified front page. It will then undergo scrutiny from our editors to be uploaded on the front page. We have nothing to offer except our expertise, encouragement and access to places to publish, including the online newspaper at www.euducationsimplified.mytestbuddy.com.
Students who invest the most time and energy will have the best results, but everyone’s level of involvement is different . We might ask you to write something specific, but it is your choice whether to do it or not. Mostly, we ask students to think about their own schools and towns and tell us what they think the stories are.
This program is for self-motivated students, and might not work for those who need constant attention and direction, which is something we just cannot give.
We encourage students to do what real reporters do, which is to come up with their own ideas. Of course we will have suggestions, but they you may work as per your intuitions and it may even work.
We will offer a lot of help if someone needs it and is putting forth a lot of effort. Our involvement with any student largely depends on what they’re willing to do. Some are really busy and can only do a little bit. Others get very excited about this and do a lot so we tend to have much more contact with them. Those who do the most usually learn a lot more, but everyone gets something out of it.
We strongly recommend that interested young people discuss this with their parents or family and let us know what they think. We’re happy to answer questions, but hope that anybody who is interested will read everything they can about the organization firstcoming soon at www.mytestbuddy.com
